They must have changed something I'm afraid - and it's a deal breaker for show 5 for me.
Before with Rotate Continuously off the home screen would remain on full screen clock. Now the clock selection is not respected and it stays on top left clock and pointless "try ..." messages.

Within the past few days, my unit went from showing the large clock with no issue to showing the weather forecast instead (with the clock and temperature in the upper left corner, and a "Try" suggestion below).
Issuing the "Show clock" command returns the large clock, but only for a short while.
This happened to me as well and it is an ABSOLUTE PROBLEM. I am unable to read the time without glasses unless it is BIG on the display like it was before. Why would anyone buy a clock when the time is small in a corner? Has Amazon's responsible party become retarded? I've spent the past 2 hours (4am to 6 am) trying to fix this in all ways including factory reset, but nothing has worked. If someone from Amazon reads this, IT IS A CLOCK! TIME MUST BE BIG AT ALL TIMES!!!! Easy enough for you?
I got my E5 yesterday and I too am really frustrated at not being able to use the clock faces properly. The defaulting to the small time in the top left is a deal breaker - if Amazon don’t fix this soon, I have 28 days to return my unit which I shall do if they don’t fix this immediately.
What is the point of clock faces if we can’t use them?
I got the exact same issue, I've been using my echo for a few months and have had no problems but today, the clock just stick as a small display in the top left corner, no large clock will show at all, really annoying
I'm not sure it was a firmware update - which makes things a little harder to explain. I was possibly still on an older version and did a forced update today hoping that would resolve it (the device now shows FireOs 6.5.3.3) and even tried a factory reset, but nothing I can do makes the Home screen stay on Full Screen clock (Rotate Continuously off or on).
Given that the screen is too small for any other purpose this makes the device useless.

This, pretty much. I bought this mainly for the large clock face, and for the occasional voice commands. Now it's just a small clock in the corner and useless "Try Alexa...." information! When is Amazon going to get the hint that NOBODY wants these useless tips! Get rid of them already! I know they've been bitching that people don't seem to know the full scope of what Alexa devices are capable of, but maybe we ARE and choose NOT to use them for every single aspect in life! FFS Amazon, try listening to your customers for once!
Ok I manged to spend 1 hour of live chat to 3 different CS rep trying to explain the problem - that for no reason the home screen changed to small clock.
Normally it's something obvious like a firmware update, so maybe there is some other configuration method that the echo hooks into that has changed.
I suppose so far not everyone is affected but when they are there will be lots of complaints
Same problem here. I've using the Echo 5 as a bedside clock for several months with the clock shown large after one cycle of the notifications. Early this morning I woke up to the weather being shown with time small in the top corner. So now I can't see the time without my glasses. Tried restarting it and disabling the weather display but no change. I assume there was a firmware update overnight. I hope this gets fixed soon otherwise I'll have to get my old clock out of the basement to replace the Echo. Could use the night mode display if the brightness were adjustable but it's too dim to see as it is.
I had managed to make it usable by selecting an analogue clock with a black background, enabling adaptive, turning off night mode, and setting a low brightness. That way I can read in daylight but its also dark enough at night
I assumed firmware but I think I was out of date and it hadn't updated itself as I was able to do a manual update today - but this changed nothing and a factory reset had no effect either.
I explained to CS that every publicity photo shows a full screen clock - and thats what I want
There is also the option to "send feedback" from within the echo show 5 device help menu - this might also help in getting this fixed
I have the same problem but hopefully they'll fix it soon, But for those that can't read their the clock from a distance now, just tell it to show clock. It will then display the clock you selected for a brief period before returning to the upper left hand corner mode.
There's a very similar problem with my Echo Spot, which used to rotate through Clock, Things to Try and anything else I had enabled then settle on Clock. Now settles on Things to Try with a small clock display.
Fruitless effort talking to CS who offered me a discount on a new Echo (which I'll take should I want one!) but all I wanted to do was report a software issue...
Thanks everyone for posting and confirming we're all seeing the same thing, and on other device types too.
I saw it on my previous version firmware 2584226692 and after updating to the latest 2785575812 (aka FireOS 6.5.3.3) and after a factory reset and after toggling settings.
CS chat were polite and in the end a got a referral to tech. Chat was not helped by Amazon website showing the latest firmware as 2584226692.
I bought Show 5 only because all photos show a fullscreen clock. I hope its not all related to Show 8 release which Amazon might think suits a small clock home screen.
I would like my echo Show 5 to be a full time full screen clock, except when I speak to it. Are there settings I can make to accomplish this?
Afraid not at this time.
Hi R4TPRIZE,
This is not totally full screen, but pretty large... You just remove everything else that pops up under
Settings- Home & Clock- Home Content
The only thing you can't get rid of is "Alexa Tips" which occasionally offers some hints
Of course, you can chose to keep reminders, events, etc
This sample clock is "Modern Flip"

Thank you Frank. People wanting this seems so obvious.
Hi
I turn everything off and it still goes to the top left corner, HELP

I expect something in a recent software update caused this, and that we will have to wait for another one to fix it.

Same here, I have several Show-5's . These are my main clock's in the house. 1 replaced my old alarm-clock.
I really need to get the clock-face back.
