I would also like to leave it in "Away" mode at all times. I figure there is no harm in it listening for glass breaks or alarms at all times, EXCEPT... I dislike the spinning white status light on my 3 devices and cannot disable it. So, guard is now disabled/"Home" mode until the option to shut the status light off is created. Amazon, what do you think?

There's your answer. If you're truly not bothered by it "listening all the time", then go ahead (bandwidth concerns ignored for the moment).
To implement Guard Mode, the thing does indeed have to be listening all the time, and uploading all the time, and analyzing all the time ... unless Amazon has come up with a way to locally analyze (not uploading) for all these sounds. That would be unlikely, because there really isn't much horsepower in the actual device - it uploads sound bites for remote analysis on much more powerful servers. Having every word spoken in your house uploaded for analysis would be a major privacy concern for me, but if it doesn't bother you, it's your life.
Having one of these devices listening for the wake word all the time is sketchy enough, but listening to and uploading everything all the time? Do you really want that?
Papa Lanc = "White ring is spinning all the time now whether it is set to home or away? Is this correct?"
No . . . if it only 1 Echo Devices try unplugging it for 30 sec If more than 1
