I purchased a used Echo Spot and when I plug it in, the screen goes straight to a clock. I don't get the expected set up prompts. Alexa says she is having trouble connecting to WiFi and to go to settings on this device. But I can't figure out how to get to settings. I suspect the device was not deregistered by the previous owner.
Yes it sounds as if you purchased the device from someone and they did not de-register it from their account. Contact Amazon directly. Go to the Alexa App and go to the Help & Feedback section and choose Contact Us. There are 3 ways to contact them. However, both the Echo Spot and Echo Show can be configured right on the screen itself. Swipe down from the top of the screen you should see a cog wheel symbol that is the settings for the device. But since it cannot connect to internet I am not sure you will be able to access some of the settings.
1) The device was not de-registered by the previous owner. Amazon customer support was able to register it with my account. You need the serial number for this to happen.
2) When told to swipe down to get to settings, you have to start your finger at the very top edge, just ABOVE the camera. I was starting at the top of the clock face.
3) Amazon support kept telling me to go to the app to add the device. Had to tell them several times that the Spot did not show up on the list of devices and that it was set up from the device itself. A fact I learned in this forum.
4) Even after Amazon support registered the device to my account I still had to do a factory reset. When asked to sign into my amazon account it was indicating the wrong account information, I suspect that it was looking for the previous owners account credentials. You can factory reset in two ways: through settings or by holding down the on/mic button and volume down button simultaneously.
But all is good now and set up. Hope some of this information helps others.
