I've had a routine called "My Day" that includes Alexa saying good morning, reporting the weather, giving my flash briefing, saying the word of the day, and saying have a nice day. It's worked great every morning until this morning. Now when I say, "Alexa start my day," the Echo Dot flashes briefly then goes dark. Alexa says nothing at all. I can look in history and see that it thinks it said good morning, but that's as far as it goes.
I've tried setting up a new routine with a new phrase. If only the weather is in it it will work sometimes, and only sometimes. But then why have a routine for just that? If I add any other steps it doesn't work ever.
I can trigger the routine manually in the Alexa app, and it will work fine, but that's not what I want.
I can trigger the various steps individually -- i.e. Alexa what's the weather, Alexa what's my flash briefing, etc -- and they will work.
I tried setting up a routine triggered at a specific time with all of the steps above, and that worked as expected. But that's also not what I want. I want to trigger the routine via a phrase.
Can anybody help with this? Is anyone else having this problem?
If you prefer, contact Customer Service and they will troubleshoot with you. From the Alexa app > Help & Feedback > Call Customer Service > select your device > select a category > select an issue > verify your info > Call Me > they will call you almost immediately.
I’m glad you found the solution. Thank you for posting it.
Follow-up mode is new to me. Is it in the Alexa app?
Edit: Ok, I found the Follow-Up Mode help page and where the setting is supposed to me, but it’s not on my version of the Alexa app. I’ll look for a newer version. I appreciate learning about this new setting. Always something new with Alexa.
If anyone has read down this far, and if you are still having issues getting your Flash Briefing routine to work, then try unplugging the unit for 10 seconds, then plugging it back in. That solved my issue quite quickly.
My routine was :
This day in history
(stories from several different news outlets) An Alexa tip of the day (Things to Try)
But about two weeks ago it would crash after "This day in history" and go back to the home page. I found this thread, tried unplugging for 10 seconds, and now I'm back in business. Thanks!
This just recently started failing for me. After a little testing it appears that it’s an issue with the “Alexa will respond from:” setting from more than one device; that is, a multi-room speaker group.
Changing it to “The device you speak to” seems to solve my problem.
i have got 2 devices (echo dot 3th gen), but a routine in which i talk to alexa is not working, it works when i press play on m mobile, but not when i talk. It works when i set it at a specific time, it works whit sunrise and sunset but not when i talk
