Here’s the Help page for setting reminders, as well as recurring reminders, on an Echo device. The reminders sound is not a medical alarm, but it’s a nice sound. Unfortunately, you can’t change the default sound (but you can change the volume of it by telling Alexa “volume up” or “volume down”). Alexa will usually say the reminder twice.
Deen-I can't say enough bad things about the echo reminders. They are just so useless. I would do a trial run before depending on them. You may want to use alarms and timers instead.
The reminder only tells you 2x. Which is fine if you happen to be in the room quietly when it goes off. Speaking of quietly you cannot set the volume for the reminder separately. independently. Which means if you have echo at low or normal volume for music and simple communication that is the volume of the reminder. So if you go into the bathroom or you are chopping celery--you have missed the reminder.
different with timers and alarms. you can go into the echo app and set the volume for them. Mine is at full blast so even though the echo is on low when that timer or alarm goes off it is loud. The timers and alarms continue until you tell them to stop. I set the alarm for an afternoon appt the other day and forgot about it and left the house early to run an errand first and when i came back 1.5 hours later the alarm was still going full blast. My poor dog.
I have been wanting reminders for the same reason as you since echo first came out over 3 years ago. It took them 2 years to give us that service and i was very excited until i saw how useless it was. A year later it is still useless.
Can you add medical alarm sounds like "Time to take your medication" and "Time to take your blood pressure". As the caregiver to an aging parent, I would love to set alarm reminders for him.
You can create reminders, however there are couple of things to keep in mind. 1-The reminders only repeat 2x, so if you are in a different room when they go off you will miss them. You can however see the reminder in the Alexa app on your Smartphone though, if you are using an Android phone it will come as a notification on your phone as well. 2-You cannot control the volume of them without leaving your volume setting to high all the time. Meaning there are no settings to make the volume go up over time because like I said they only repeat 2x. To set these up just say ALEXA REMIND ME TIME TO TAKE MY MEDICATION AT 10 AM DAILY or ALEXA REMIND ME TO TAKE MY BLOOD PRESSURE AT 9 AM DAILY. When the time comes up you will hear a tone and Alexa will say "THIS IS A REMINDER: TIME TO TAKE MY MEDICATION".
I have to say I find the reminders very useful. I have 2 set, for 3pm and 9pm, to remind me to feed my cat. I am at my computer desk most of the time so that is the Dot I set the reminder up on. If I happen to be away at the time, the reminder shows on the screen of my phone until I clear notifications - I don't even have to fire up the app. So they work well for me, but of course my cat WILL survive if I don't see the reminder until an hour or even more later. (She doesn't think she will, but that is another story.) I don't know if that would be true for your father so only you can decide if this ability would be useful to him.
