Hi, while waiting for my Echo Connect to arrive I had expanded my Echo devices to include Echo Dot (2nd Gen), Echo (2nd Gen) and Echo Show. When I ordered the Echo Connect it was based on the listing and short video that indicated it was necessary for making calls. I have been able to make calls using my Echo Show to anyone on my contacts list, and have received calls on Echo, haven't tried it with Echo Dot, without having to use my Alexa app.
The way the devices are performing I wonder why would I want an Echo Connect at this time?
I look forward to hearing from all. Merry Christmas!!
It's a hands-free speakerphone for your landline or VOIP phone. Alexa can make calls without the Connect, but the Connect lets you use it on your landline phone; people you call will see your landline number as the caller ID. If you don't have a landline phone, you can't use the Connect at all.
Thanks for reminding me about the VoIP hands free stuff. So far I have been able to call both landline and wireless contacts. When they call me via Alexa the message I get for ID is "Alexa ......" and the first name of the person...assuming they are in my contact list.
I wrote a suggestion for you on the issue you posted. I hope you can find it somewhat helpful.
