I have a Premium Spotify account. when I try to link to that account in the Alexa app I see a message that says "Upgrade to Premium to play Spotify" an if I click on the link on the page I am taken to a page that is asking me to pay for a "Premium for Family" account which I don't want as I am already on a Premium account. How do I fix this?
No. All I see on the Spotify link is that I need to upgrade. Is there a way to delete anything that might already be associated with an account that is no longer used?
Just to be clear, on the Alexa app you tapped Settings > Music & Media > Link Account on Spotify? On mine, the next screen after that is the photo I posted above.
Did you log into your Spotify account and then it says you need to upgrade? If yes, is it possible you logged into a second Spotify account that doesn’t have Premium?

I appreciate your assistance. When I click 'music, video and books' and select 'Spotify' I get this message:
Is it possible to delete on Alexa a previously saved Spotify account that doesn't have Premium ? I think the app might be tied to my son's Spotify account which has now lapsed.
You should be able to unlink it (settings > music & media > tap little arrow to the right of Spotify > unlink).
If you don’t have an unlink option, it might be best to contact Customer Service. Alexa app > help & feedback > call customer service > answer the questions. Someone will call you almost immediately.
Can someone please help me how to connect with spotify? When I go to the Alexa app-> Settings->Music&Media->Choose default music service....I see that Spotify is stated there but it is in grey and I cannot click on it to switch from Amazon Music to Spotify. Can please anyone help?
I’m uncertain of the problem. You could try logging into the Alexa desktop website to see if you can connect to Spotify. See: https://alexa.amazon.com/
For this issue, here I recommend you can launch Alexa app on your phone and check whether it has connected with your Spotify premium account. If the error still exist, you can also log out and sign in your account. If you need to play Spotify music on Amazon Echo with a Spotify free account, you can use Spotify to MP3 converter for Windows to download Spotify playlists and then sync them to Echo for offline playback.

Do you see this on your screen and did you select the log in button?
Connect Alexa to your Spotify account
Log in to Spotify
or
Sign up for Spotify
