Today, I've received my brand-new Echo (2nd generation). After an easy set-up of two Echo dot, I thought, Echo should be the same.... and the nightmare started.
I've tried really everything - every time during the try to connect the echo to the local wifi, I've got the well known error 12:1:107:22:1.
So, I've aksed Google to help me and found this board. After I've read that this error could be the result that the Echo has been locked by Amazon, I've called them.
The story is that easy: Prior to delivery, Amazon links the Echo (dot, plus, show...) directly to the account of the buyer. After a complaint (which was in my case an issue with the logistics company), Amazon is going to lock the Echo for security reasons.
After a phone chat with a very kind and competent support lady here in Germany less than ten minutes the issue was solved and my Echo linked to wifi - I'm happy.
So, if you concern this error, don't hesitate to contact Amazon support to help you. If you're not the buyer, ask the person who's bought the Echo to unlink it in one's Amazon account.
It's really easy - and it has nothing to do with your router.
I received this same code today, after I had power cycled my modem/router so I could try to get a new FireStick TV to work (still didn't work). But it did require me to redo the WiFi on my Echo and Dot. Echo came back with the aforementioned error. All I did was go into "manage content and devices" in Amazon, I made sure the Echo was deregistered and set it up as brand new one. It worked. And still had all of my skills, history, voice, alarms etc all saved. 😊 Hope it helps someone else!
Echo devices are limited in extent to the dependency of Wi-Fi channel they can communicate with. In addition to this, Wi-Fi congestions are also equally important to be taken care of. In my case, it was the Alexa App for Echo which is not updated that resulted in Error 12:1:107:22:1. However, your scenario can be different. So it's better to discuss your query with the Experts for the adequate resolutions.
I can not connect to register amazon echo 2nd edition, I have been trying for days. I followed all the Amazon suggestions; but I fall in the same loop

Any amazon phone number customer support?
No, Amazon does not provide phone numbers for customer support. (And if you Google, any numbers you're given could very well be scammers.) Amazon Customer Service is easily contacted using the 'Help > Need More Help? > Contact Us' link, at the bottom of this page...or any amazon.com page. Choose Chat or Phone (Amazon will call you).
Same issue here. Device was working great for first few weeks then out of the blue it tells me it is not registered and for help to go to my Alexa app. I've tried to reset it and set it back up for hours with no luck.
I ran into this same problem when I purchased a new, unopened, Echo Dot (3rd gen) from a seller on Facebook Marketplace. I had to contact the seller who i bought it from, and ask that they log into their Amazon account for which the device was purchased through, and deregister the device. I found this article: https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201964260 which provides the following details:
Give an Amazon Device as a Gift
You can give an Amazon device as a gift by purchasing a new device from Amazon or by gifting a device you already own.
Purchase a New Amazon Device as a Gift
You can purchase Amazon devices from Amazon and mark them as a gift with or without a message to be included for your recipient.
To purchase an Amazon device as a gift:
From Amazon.com, select the device you want to purchase as a gift.
On the product detail page, check the box next to This is a gift.
Click Add to Cart to continue with gifting options, and then choose Proceed to Checkout.
If you forgot to select This is a gift and the device hasn't shipped yet, you can update the gift settings of the order from Your Account.
If you forgot to select This is a gift and the device has already shipped, deregister the device from your account by going to Manage Your Content and Devices, selecting the Your Devices tab, and then clicking the Actions button and Deregister next to the device you purchased as a gift.
Gift or Sell an Amazon Device You Own
If you want to give a device you already own to someone else, you’ll need to deregister the device from your Amazon account and reset it to factory defaults. Resetting the device to factory defaults removes all content and personal information from the device, and deregisters it from your account.
My Echo Dot was delayed, twice. I called Amazon to complain and they said they would send me a new one. I asked what happens if/when the original arrives, and I was told to keep it. When the original arrived, I got this error. I called Amazon, and they told me, since a new one was in the mail, I would have to pay for it to get it turned On. I said, so your solution to a late arrival is to de-register the first and make the person wait another week for a second?!?! Seriously stupid ...... make me wait nearly 3 weeks to get a working Dot, and Amazon is out 2 Dots. A Lose-Lose solution.
Hi alexander, where i can contact with amazon i bought a second hand amazon echo and i can't register this please i need to make work
Instructions for contacting Amazon Customer Service are in my reply, above (post #49). If the secondhand device is still registered to the previous owner, you won't be able to register it until it's de-registered from their account. If a previous owner/user reported the device lost or stolen Amazon has bricked it and you'll never be able to register it.
I got mine on on Christmas and still havent been able to registere it. Its brand new closed box and nothing works. I might just put up a video online of me smashing the crap out of it with a hammer and see if that catches on.
I cannot believe that I wasted 2.5 hours on trying to figure this out only to learn that the "gift" I received wasn't registered. Delivered to the house in an Amazon box with an Amazon receipt and a nice gift message. AAAAUUUUGGGGHHHH. Took 30 seconds to set up Google Home. Amazon needs to get it figured out!!!!
